Integration

Integrative Living: A Way of Being, Not Something to Do

Integrative Living

At Root & Wisdom, we don’t just talk about integration—we invite you to reframe it as integrative living. The distinction is subtle yet profound. Integration often implies something to accomplish, a task to complete, or a process that can be “done wrong.” How many times have we heard someone say, “I messed up my integration” or “I didn’t integrate properly”? This kind of pressure is unrealistic and counterproductive. Who decides what “successful” integration looks like? This dualistic thinking only takes us further from the depth and beauty that these plant teachers like Iboga offer—a way to live beyond polarity in a state of equanimity.

Integrative living, on the other hand, is an ongoing way of being—a constant unfolding within each moment, each breath. It’s not about chasing a perfect outcome or completing an imagined task but about embracing life itself as the true ceremony.

Through this lens, the time spent with plant medicine, as profound as it may be, becomes just a blink of an eye compared to the grand ceremony of your entire life. Teachers like Iboga extend an invitation—not for a singular transformative event but for a way of living as an active participant in your own journey. They call us back to an ancient rhythm—a way of being reflected in Indigenous wisdom traditions—where life is a constant ceremony, deeply connected to the earth and steeped in meaning.

Where integration implies a goal or objective, integrative living is a way of being. It mirrors the wisdom of Indigenous peoples who flowed with nature’s rhythms, finding ceremony in every gust of wind, every drop of rain, and each sunrise.

To support you in this shift toward integrative living, we’ve developed a set of robust resources that extend far beyond your time with us, setting a new standard for guest care. If other centers aren’t offering this level of depth and support, it’s worth asking yourself, why not?

Our Integrative Living Resources Include:

  • Five FREE 75-minute one-on-one sessions with Maia, a licensed counselor, psychedelic coach, meditation teacher, and former Iboga retreat facilitator. Maia provides personalized guidance rooted in years of experience. [Click here to learn more about Maia: Sunnup.]
  • Three months of FREE access to Nectara, an e-integration platform offering community sharing circles, expert guidance, and a library of over 100 resources to help you deepen your journey.
  • Our Integrative Living Program (ILP): A comprehensive 9-month e-course combining pre-recorded content with live coaching sessions. This program supports you from three months before your retreat to six months afterward, helping you weave your insights into everyday life. (Launching July 2025)

Integrative living reminds us that transformation doesn’t end when the medicine wears off. It invites you to step fully into life—moment by moment, breath by breath—as the co-creator of your own healing and growth. This is the heart of our work: not just guiding you through a ceremony but empowering you to live in the constant ceremony of life itself.

What is integration?

The real magic of Iboga happens when you embody the profound lessons it has revealed to you. However, the insights and shifts you have experienced need time to process and unfold. Integration refers to the ongoing process of integrating this wisdom and healing so that you live your life in alignment with your highest truth.

What to Expect

The process of integration after an Iboga ceremony can be both profound and challenging. Here’s what many of our guests experience as they integrate:

  • Psychological clarity and healing: Iboga is known for its ability to help individuals confront and heal deep-seated emotional wounds, unresolved trauma, and repressed memories. You may find yourself processing difficult emotions that were hidden from your conscious awareness. These can surface as feelings of grief, anger, or fear, but ultimately, allowing them will lead to healing and release.
  • Shifts in perception and awareness: Iboga can bring about a reawakening of your sense of self and your connection to the world. Many people report a shift in how they see themselves, their relationships, and their purpose in life. This clarity may inspire changes in your career, social circles, or even your lifestyle.
  • Heightened sensitivity and intuition: After working with Iboga, your senses may feel heightened, and you may experience a greater connection to your intuition. This can lead to a deeper understanding of your own needs, desires, and the natural flow of life, guiding you to make healthier choices.
  • Physical detox and emotional release: Iboga’s powerful detoxifying effects can bring about a period of physical and emotional release. This may manifest as changes in your body’s energy, sleep patterns, and digestion, or it may prompt intense emotional shifts. These experiences are part of the healing process, and patience is key.

True Support = Lasting change

The Psycho-Spiritual Empowerment Program (PSEP) at Root and Wisdom is anchored in the principle of integrative living, transforming every moment into a step towards embodying the wisdom of Iboga. By unveiling how thoughts lead to choices, which manifest as actions and ultimately shape our reality, the PSEP equips you to sculpt a life aligned with your most profound insights actively.

Iboga’s interaction with GDNF proteins enhances neuroplasticity, laying a fertile foundation for change, while its effect on the nervous system opens a pathway to regulation and balance.

This journey is not merely about integration but about embracing a ceremonial approach to life, where Iboga’s profound healing and awakening potentials nurture continuous transformation.

How to ensure a successful integration

While the Iboga experience is deeply transformative, integration requires conscious effort. Here’s how you can ensure that your experience with Iboga leads to lasting change:

  1. Commit to regular reflection: Set aside time each day or week to process your thoughts, emotions, and visions that arose during your Iboga journey. Journaling can be an invaluable tool in this process. Write about what you’ve learned, the emotions that arise, and the shifts you’re experiencing in your perceptions. Over time, patterns and insights will become clearer.
  2. Seek professional and peer support: Iboga’s deep effects often require a robust support system. Talking with your integration coach, a therapist or trusted spiritual mentor can help you make sense of the profound shifts you’ve encountered. In addition to your 5 coaching sessions, we offer ongoing integration support through our online platform nectara, where you can connect with others who are also on the path of healing.
  3. Allow time for processing: The integration of Iboga’s insights is not immediate. It may take days, weeks, or even months for the full effects of your experience to unfold. Be patient with yourself as you integrate the lessons and changes that arise. Trust the process and give yourself permission to heal at your own pace.
  4. Cultivate a grounding practice: As you navigate the changes brought about by Iboga, grounding practices are essential. Meditation, yoga, breathwork, and spending time in nature can help you stay centered and connected to your body and to the present moment. This is especially important as your mind and spirit adjust to new insights and perspectives.
  5. Implement small, conscious changes: As you begin to see things differently, it’s important to take inspired action. Whether it’s setting healthier boundaries, changing old habits, or pursuing new goals, the key is to start with small, manageable steps. Integrating these actions into your daily life reinforces your transformation and ensures the lessons you’ve learned are embodied.
  6. Stay connected with the community: Community support plays a vital role in the integration process. At Root & Wisdom you’ll have access to a network of like-minded individuals who are also integrating their Iboga experiences. Sharing your journey with others who have walked the same path can provide encouragement, insight, and reassurance as you continue your healing process.
  7. Nurture self-love and compassion: The process of integration can sometimes be challenging, as old patterns or emotions surface. Remember to be gentle with yourself. Self-compassion and forgiveness are key to embracing your growth. Allow yourself to feel, to heal, and to grow without judgement.

At Root & Wisdom, we’re dedicated to supporting you every step of the way in your journey with Iboga—from the moment you arrive, to your retreat experience, and throughout the ongoing process of integration. The wisdom of Iboga is here to guide you, but it’s through your commitment to the integration process that lasting transformation can unfold.
